2007 Regional GVA Data 
2007 data for regional gross value added (GVA) has been released. This briefing summarises the headline messages from this annual release. The data are historical: the latest years available for inter-regional outcomes are 2007, and 2006 for intra-regional and sectoral outcomes. 
 
ONS Regional and Sub-Regional GVA Release 2007 – South West 
The latest release includes revisions to earlier years. Estimates of GVA by industry have been reinstated in this release following their suspension last year (see Notes & Definitions). All estimates in this release are in current price terms and have not been adjusted for inflation. 
 
Bank of England Inflation Report - November 2008 
The above inflation report was published by the Bank of England in November 2008, under the guidance of the members of the Monetary Policy Committee.  
 
UK Competitivness idex 2008 
The UK Competitiveness Index 2008 represents a benchmarking of the competitiveness of the UK's regions and localities. It shows the indices for 2008, and those presented in 2006 to enable comparison and examining the UK's changing competitiveness landscape. 
 
Commission for Rural Communities 
The above report, State of the Countryside 2008 provides a summary of social, economic and environmental conditions and changes across rural England, highlighting the main challenges and future trends for government and other organisations.

Bank of England Inflation Report - August 2008 
The above inflation report was published by the Bank of England in August 2008, under the guidance of the members of the Monetary Policy Committee. 
 
Regional Index of Sustainable Economic Well-Being 
A consortium of Regional Development Agencies, led by that for the East Midlands, have commissioned the New Economics Foundation (NEF) to construct an adjusted economic measure of GDP. The above report describes the development and application of a Regional Index of Sustainable Economic Well-Being (R-ISEW), and calculates it for all English regions. Previously, a draft copy was available on the website but the latest report is the final version. 
 
SW Labour Market - Recession 
This report, written by the Economics and Evidence team of the South West Regional Development Agency, looks at the impact of the current economic slowdown on the region's labour market. 
 
Credit Crunch and the Property Market 
Since July 2007, GLA Economics has been monitoring the impact of the credit crunch on the London Economy. In May 2008, it published a report assessing the impact of the credit crunch on the London property market, with a specific focus on investment, development and occupational markets. Whilst this specific report looks at the property market in London, it may provide some insight into how the credit crunch may affect the market in other areas. Inflation Report - May 2008 
The above inflation report was published by the Bank of England in May 2008, following the the CPI measure of inflation reaching 3%. 
 
Regional and sub-Regional GDHI estimates - 2006 
The latest release from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) includes new Gross Disposable Household Income data for 2006 and revisions to earlier years. Between 2005 and 2006, South West GDHI grew by 3.5% to £70,061m, with only the North West and the Greater South East (London, the South East and the East of England) exceeding this amount. 
 
Graduate Economies in Britain - A Local and Regional Analysis 
Commissioned by Graduates Yorkshire and published in October 2007, this report provides evidence on the performance of local and regional economies throughout Britain. 
 
Bank of England Quarterly Bulletin 2007 Q4 
At the end of last year the Bank of England released its Quarterly Bulletin for the final quarter of 2007. In it contained three article's of particular interest that track recent national economic trends:

GVA Data Release - December 2007 
On 14th December 2007, 2006 figures for Gross Value Added (GVA) were released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). This marks one of the most important days of the year for anyone concerned with regional development matters. The report captures the headline messages from the annual release. 
 
Measuring the Economy 
A review of measuring the economy at both a national and a regional level. 
 
ONS- South West Regional Snapshot 
ONS South West Regional Snapshot provides easy access to a wide range of subnational products via the National Statistics website. The snapshot was introduced to improve access to and presentation of regional and subregional information.  
 
History of the ABI 
The Census of Production, and its successor the Annual Business Inquiry, which is run by the Office for National Statistics, has tracked the huge changes to industry and society over the past 100 years as service industries have grown and manufacturing has declined. This paper charts the history of the ABI. 
 
Stern Review 
This is a collection of three papers by the Stern Review team reflecting on views and discussions on ethics, costs and policy responses to climate change since the publication of the Stern Review. 
 
The Problems of Success: Reconciling economic growth and quality of life in the South East 
This paper from the Institute for Public Policy Research, published in 2004, focuses on the environmental problems that tend to emerge from the pursuit of 'unsustainable' economic growth.
